Momentum Race Group Chevrolet Camaro - Click above for a high-res image gallery

It might be late, but it's better than never. The Chevrolet Camaro is set to battle the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger in the KONI Sports Car Challenge race series under the banner of Momentum Race Group. The Dallas-based race outfit will run a two-car team featuring a 2010 Camaro prepared by Riley Technologies and a lineup of well-seasoned drivers including SPEED World Challenge veterans Robb Holland and Jeff Altenburg. To prepare for the 2010 season against the dominant Mustangs and BMWs, both teams will begin testing in September and are even scheduled to compete in the last race of the season at Virginia International Raceway in October. You can read more about the team and their plans for the Camaro in the press release after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Trentor_Drive!

BMW M division asks "What downturn?"

BMW M division asks "What downturn?"

Filed under:

So in case you haven't heard, a few economies are having a few hiccups, money isn't easy to get as it used to be, and consumer belt-tightening is turning into fastening the rope more securely around sackcloth robes. That is, unless you're looking for a BMW M-car. BMW's M division sold more cars worldwide through the end of August of this year than it had in all of 2007. But the economic world didn't end until September, you say? Well, that didn't stop the moneyed from showing up at the M division's door: it sold another 6,000 cars through the end of November, which already puts the branch up fifty-percent over last year's total sales. You can check out the press release after the jump, and walk away knowing that no matter what, there is always enough sun somewhere for people to make hay.

Brabham BT 92 debuts at Essen, Sir Jack Brabham not so happy

Brabham BT 92 debuts at Essen, Sir Jack Brabham not so happy

After seeing a rendering of the M3-based BT 92 from Brabham Racing, we were anxiously anticipating the car's debut at the Essen Motor Show this past week. The real thing didn't disappoint - beautiful carbon fiber bodywork, massive brakes, adjustable suspension, and unique wheels wrapped with Dunlop tires. Sound like a winning combination, yet? Well, maybe not. Like many of you, we assumed that the company was directly linked to the Brabham family, well known for its racing success. This is apparently not the case, and according to GoldCoast.com.au, Sir Jack Brabham is upset about the use of his family's name and has stated that legal action will be taken against the German-based company. The names "Brabham" and "Brabham Racing" have been legally registered, but the desired link to the original race team is apparent in the press release after the jump. We're not lawyers, but we can't imagine the use of the Brabham name being allowed for too much longer. Thanks for the tip, Joel.

Audi R15 TDI to debut at Sebring in March, attack Le Mans in June

Audi R15 TDI to debut at Sebring in March, attack Le Mans in June

Filed under:

The Audi R10 TDI is dead. Long live the R15. That's the moniker given to the next-generation Le Mans prototype set to wear the interlocking rings. The car will make its race debut in March at the 12 Hours of Sebring, and by the time the 24 Hours of Le Mans rolls around in June, Audi will have three of the cars ready to defend the trophy won by the R10 earlier this year. Details on the new car are very limited at the moment. All that's known is that it'll have a smaller, lighter, more efficient TDI motor, will once again be a roadster, and is a more significant change than Audi undertook when it went from the R8 to the R10.

The car will be publicly revealed closer to the Sebring race. According to the ALMS website, Audi Motorsport honcho Wolfgang Ullrich was quoted as saying, "It was clear to us that we must develop a new car if we wanted to continue to be successful in Le Mans." We read that as code for, "Those Peugeots were f**king fast this year. Here's our answer." By the time the cars hit the grid at Circuit de la Sarthe, the hype's going to be at a fever pitch. Bring it. Thanks to Ashutosh for the tip!

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Arrives in LA

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Arrives in LA

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black's "twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 makes 661 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque -- its top speed is 198 mph and 0-100 km/h (62 mph) happens in 3.8 seconds." Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

We say wicked because there's no other way to describe this car. It's menacing and imposing. It's low and it's wide. It's got vents, ducts, carbon-fiber body panels and even a rollover bar to prove its purpose.

Officially, official: Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M to celebrate F1 title

Officially, official: Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M to celebrate F1 title

Filed under:

Click the Scuderia Spider for a high res gallery

After winning its 16th Formula one constructors championship last week, Ferrari has chosen this week to release a open top version of the F430 Scuderia. The Scuderia Spider 16M gets all the goodies from the lightweight Scuderia coupe like the 510 hp 4.3L V8 and the 6-speed F1 paddle shift gearbox. Ferrari is claiming the Scuderia Spider is the fastest open top model they've ever tested around the Fiorano test track, presumably beating out even the might F50 of decade ago. The Scuderia is 176 lbs lighter than a standard F430 spider at 2954 lbs dry. That's claimed to be good enough for a 0-62 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds and a terminal velocity of 195.7 mph. As a limited series model Ferrari has of course added lots of distinguishing features like a carbon fiber shell around the roll bar, number plaque on the dash and special interior trim packages. Only 499 Scuderia Spiders will be built and they will undoubtedly be priced higher than the $277,000 US base price of the coupe. For those with access to that much disposable cash, it will surely be worth the price of admission. The press release is after the jump.
