VERY Impressive Real-Life (Human) Disney Princesses

VERY Impressive Real-Life (Human) Disney Princesses: disney-princess-1.jpg

This is a small series of photographs by Ryan Astemendi of Disney Princesses in real life. As amazing and accurate as they all are, I couldn't help but notice there was something missing. "Ariel?" Bingo.

Hit the jump for four more and a bonus Jessica Rabbit BECAUSE WHY THE F*** NOT?

How to Install Chrome OS on a Netbook

How to Install Chrome OS on a Netbook:
So I was rummaging through some junk I had in my garage the other day and I ran into my old beloved, but now completely useless, Asus 1000HE netbook! Wow, that segment vanished just as quickly as it appeared! Anyway, it’s still a decent little computer, so I didn’t want to give it away. It was running Windows XP, but I wanted to try something new.
Other articles I read online suggest installing Linux (Ubuntu, JoliCloud, etc), but I wanted to give Chrome OS a try since I had NEVER played around with that operating system. After a little bit of research and a few hiccups, I was able to get it installed and working! In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps (and troubleshooting) steps to get Chrome OS installed on your old netbook.
First things first, where do you go about getting a copy of Chrome OS? Well, it’s open source and free, so you can download the source code from here:
http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os
Hmmm, download source code, install Linux, build Chrome OS, then install it! Wow, that’s not easy. Luckily, someone else has done that for us! The awesome dude(s) at hexxeh build each nightly build of Chrome OS for you and even have an installer for Windows, Mac, and Linux that installs it onto a USB stick and makes it bootable! Yippeee! Can’t get any easier than that.
http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/index.php
First, go to the link above. You’ll see it says Vanilla. There are two types of Chrome OS downloads created by hexxeh: vanilla and lime. Vanilla is straight conversion of Chrome OS released by Google into a build.
vanilla chrome os
Lime has a few extras that make it much more compatible with different hardware. Now that may sound nice, but I tried to install Lime first on my netbook and it basically got stuck on a blank screen when booting. I downloaded Vanilla and it worked just fine and it detected all my hardware (sound, wireless card, etc).
chrome os lime
I suggest you download Vanilla first and give that a shot. If it doesn’t work, then you can try Lime. Or if it does work, you can try Lime too later on. It’s a fairly fast process and installing Chrome OS from the USB stick took literally 5 minutes. It’s not like installing Windows that can take hours at times.
Ok, so where do you download it? Scroll down the hexxeh page and you’ll see the builder applications:
builder application
Obviously, if you’re on a Mac, download the Mac builder application and if you’re on Windows, download the Windows one. I’m on a Mac, so you’ll see Mac screenshots, but it’s the same procedure on either OS. Run Chrome OS Image Creator and you’ll get this screen:
chrome os image creator
Here is where you choose the Lime or Vanilla version. It’s the last 3 days of each build. I just picked Vanilla and the latest version by date. Then click Next. You’ll be asked to select a USB stick to use, so plug that in now if you haven’t already. It should be greater than 4 GB.
usb stick
Click Next and you’ll be asked whether you are sure you want to erase the memory stick.
erase usb stick
Click Erase and the program will begin to download the version of Chrome OS you had chosen. After downloading, it will write it to the USB stick.
downloading
Finally, when it has completed, you will see the following message:
chrome os install
Click Finished and take out your memory stick. Now you have to go to your netbook and change the boot sequence so that the memory stick boots first before the hard drive. On my Asus, I had to have the usb stick connected before pressing F2 to get into the BIOS settings.
bios settings
I went to Boot at the top and then selected Hard Disk Drives. Note that Hard Disk Drives won’t even appear unless you have connected your USB stick. Also, you should turn off your netbook, plug in the USB stick and then turn on the netbook and go into the BIOS settings. If you try to connect it while in the BIOS settings already, this option won’t show. Now you’ll be able to move up the USB stick in the boot priority.
boot priority
Now exit and let your computer boot up. You should see the Chromium screen pop up on your netbook!
chromium
If you see this, you’re good to go now! You can now run and play around with Chrome OS on your previously useless netbook! On the next screen, you’ll be asked to choose the language, keyboard and a wireless network. Hopefully, depending on your netbook, it will show a list of wireless networks here, which means it can recognize your wireless card. If not, you’ll have to try the Lime version or a different build.
chrome os settings
It’ll then check for updates and if nothing is found, will take you to the sign in screen. Here you need to enter your Google account email and password.
sign in chrome os
Lastly, choose your profile pic and then you’ll be brought to the Chrome OS desktop, which for me was some green grass.
chrome os desktop
Enjoy the new netbook with Chrome OS! If you had any trouble installing Chrome OS on your netbook, post a comment here with your specs and the problem and we’ll try to help! Enjoy!

Android SDK updated, emulator now natively supports x86

Android SDK updated, emulator now natively supports x86: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Bootloader

Google updated its software development kit (SDK) to revision 17 today, bringing a few new features and plenty of bug fixes. While developers would do well to check the source link for the full changelog, what's most exciting here for Android enthusiasts is that x86 is now supported natively in the emulator on Windows and OS X. If you've ever used the Android emulator on a computer, you'll likely know well that it was painful to use — and very slow. Google says that the emulator now runs at "near native speed," thanks to contributions from Intel. The emulator now has "experimental" support for multitouch input from a tethered Android device as well, which should help developers test out their software more realistically on their...

Blogger Adds Advanced Webmaster Features

Blogger Adds Advanced Webmaster Features: Blogger blogs are no longer that limited. After adding support for static pages and favicons, Blogger added some new advanced features to the "search preferences" section of the settings page.

Now you can edit the description meta tag without editing the template. If you edit the description meta tag for the entire blog, you can also write descriptions for your blog posts. This is useful because Google's snippets sometimes rely on this meta tag.

For the first time you can create a custom 404 error page for a Blogger blog without buying a domain. Just "enter an HTML message that will be displayed on the Page Not Found page instead of the generic message." Google has some tips for creating useful 404 pages and there's even a widget powered by Google search that shows related links and a search box with appropriate search suggestions.

You can also create custom redirects, but only for internal URLs. For example, you can redirect http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/mailto to http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2012/02/open-mailto-links-using-gmail-in-google.html. Make sure that you leave out the first part of the URL (http://googlesystem.blogspot.com) when you create the redirect.

There are also options for customizing the robots.txt page and robots header tags. It's probably a good idea to use Blogger's robots.txt page as a template (http://yourblog.blogspot.com/robots.txt) and only add some new pages you want to be ignored by search engines.

Download APKs from the Android Market with a Chrome extension

Download APKs from the Android Market with a Chrome extension:
APK Downloader
APK Downloader is a Chrome extension that does exactly what its name advertises -- download APKs from the Android Market site. Getting the tool up and running takes quite a bit more work than your average browser add-on, requiring you to edit the Chrome shortcut to disable SSL error warnings, but it's hardly rocket science. This should make sideloading apps much easier and give you a chance to try software yourself, even if a developer seems to think its app wont work with your device. There is, of course, room for abuse and it does violate the Market's ToS -- so try it at your own risk. If you're unfazed, hit up the source link for complete instructions.

20+ Pieces of Superhero Mashup Art

20+ Pieces of Superhero Mashup Art:

Sure superhero fan art can be fun on its own, but you know what’s better? Non-superheroes suddenly transformed into amazing men and women of comic book lore. Sure they might not be as good at saving the world, but from an aesthetic perspective, they’re way more fun.

Futurama

Perhaps one of the most epic superhero mashup artworks around is this great Futurama X-Men Meld by DeviantArt user Gottabecarl. Can you identify all of the characters in this massive artwork? Be warned, you might have to head to his DeviantArt page just to be able to see them all in their full scale.

Muppets

If there was anyone Muppet that best matches Wolverine, DeviantArt user Rahzzah totally nailed it as Animal. That being said, I don’t know how well Beaker would serve as any superhero. He’s not exactly the bravest Muppet around. Personally, I think casting Miss Piggy as Phoenix seems like a much more natural choice.

Community Characters

When the jury was still out on whether or not Community would be renewed for another season, artist Aviv Or expressed his feelings on the matter by showing just how much he thought of the show’s characters. Personally, I adore the idea of Abed playing the role of Professor X.

The Smurfs and Archie

Ever wonder where Mystique got all those tiny skulls on her belt? Caanan Grall has the answer with this single frame that explains so much about her back story. While it might not be as informative, his take on Clark Kent taking over for Archie is certainly just as entertaining.

Ren & Stimpy

Have you ever wondered what Batman and Robin would be like if they were mixed with a grouchy Chihuahua and a obese house cat? DeviantArt user Stejam13 has your answer with this wonderful combination of the classic comic and the legendary Nicktoon, Ren & Stimpy.

Meowvel Vs Catcom

Marvel Vs. Capcom might be a great game, but there was definitely something missing. Fortunately, DeviantArt user Suzuran figured out what the missing element was –cats. Finally the game concept has been fully fleshed out.

Marvel Cats

Speaking of Marvel and cats, as it turns out, there are plenty of artists with the same idea of combining these two wonderful things. Ryan King imagined what would happen if kitty Electra got a hold of a scratching post.

Rose of Izzy’s Squiggles knows just what Spidercat would do with his amazing web-shooting abilities.

And Katie Cook knows why Spidercat (along with most super felines) would be terrible at rescuing people. All of these artists have other Marvel kitty mashups at their sites, so if you like their styles, don’t forget to click the links.

Ghost Rider Kitty

Matthew Warlick might not have multiple kitty hero mashups, but his feline Ghost Rider certainly stands on its own with its flaming skull and sweet leather jacket.

Charlie Brown

Who knew that the Peanuts gang could blend so seamlessly with the stars of Hellboy? Artist Francesco Francavilla certainly did, and that’s why his Hellbrown mashup seems so darn perfect.

Prince

I know I’m not the only one that could never accept Prince as a tough guy in Purple Rain. Of course, if you just switched him out with Batgirl like artist Cliff Chiang did, now you have a believable story line.

Mickey

When Disney took over Marvel, artist Alfredo Lopez Jr. immediately realized that this would become the natural progression of the comics. On the upside, Mickey has probably never looked so cool before.

Angry Birds

What happens when Angry Birds team up to take on the forces of darkness? Ryan of Dirty Splash Back can show you with his massive collection of images of the birds decked out in hero costumes. His blog has tons more superbirds, but I think it’s seriously lacking pigs in villain outfits.

Ralphie

You’d think that wearing a pink Galactus costume would at least be slightly less embarrassing than a giant pink bunny suit, but it seems poor Ralphie is just as miserable either way. Of course, maybe artist Andy J. Hunter has gotten to the real root of the problem in this picture –Ralphie doesn’t hate the costumes, he just hates pink.

Stormtroopers

If stormtroopers are evil and Venom is evil, then the two together must be evil squared, which means spidertrooper has a heck of a fight on his hands if he’s ever going to get out of this one. If you like this image, then don’t miss DeviantArt user JonBolerjack’s gallery where he has even more stormtrooper comic book mashups for your viewing pleasure.

Scott Pilgrim

Yes, Scott Pilgrim already was a comic book, but for all those who complain it is too “girly,” DeviantArt user Whoisrico has just the solution to make it a little more manly –mix it up with the X-Men.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

How do you make the Ninja Turtles even more awesome? Turn them into Marvel Characters, of course. And while the turtles themselves are cool, artist Dean Fraser’s take on Shredder turned into Magneto might just be the coolest mashup he’s done yet. Need another weird level to his work? How about the fact that all of these mashed up characters are done for his Springfield Punx blog, which means they’re done in the style of The Simpsons…as if The Simpsons wanted to include the Ninja Turtles, but wanted them to be Marvel characters as well. Is your mind blown yet?

Amy Pond

Delivering Kiss-O-Grams is a hard job, particularly when it involves traveling across the universe through time and space. Who knows though, maybe the job is a bit easier in the D.C. Universe as captured by artist Michael Magtanong.

Daria

Something tells me that apathetic Daria wouldn’t exactly make the best superhero. In fact, I wouldn’t want to put my life in the hands of any of these X-Men, no mater how well-drawn they are by artist SRA.

http://www.outpost-daria.com/art_sra.html

I’ll admit, there are way too many of these to fill one Neatorama article, so if you have some favorite superhero mashup art that wasn’t included here, please share a link to it. The more the better! Of course, you might have an idea for a mashup that hasn’t been done yet. If so, please share it in the comments, you never know, maybe someone else will see it and make your vision a reality.
