Gmail Rolls Out Three New Features: Superstars, Nested Labels, and IMAP Controls

Gmail Rolls Out Three New Features: Superstars, Nested Labels, and IMAP Controls: "

Three new Gmail features went live yesterday, graduating from Gmail Labs to the main Gmail interface: Superstars, nested labeling (essentially, sub-folders), and advanced IMAP controls.

Traditionally Gmail has had one star, the gold one we’re all familiar with. Now Gmail supports a dozen stars you can use to flag different messages to mark them as urgent, completed, or otherwise visually mark them. Another visually-oriented feature is the introduction of nested labels. You can now create a label, such as Reunion and then create additional nested labels to further organize it such as To Do, Urgent, and more.

Finally, for those of you who access email through IMAP (if you’re using Outlook, Thunderbird, or other third-party email applications, for example) there are a whole slew of new IMAP features including selective syncing and folder size limiting.
